I second the "oh's."
Years ago I was for the aughts, but I like "O's" better.
They could just say "The past (however many) decades." Like if they have stuff from the '80s to today it would be "...the last 3 decades." or "...the last 30 years" But you are right. No-one should skip a decade just cause we don't know what to call it.
